Save-a-Blog For Dummies

How did I do? Actually, I don’t think it takes a geek for this. Anyone can do it.

Step 1: Look for the ‘extra’ codes that the hackers inserted. Check the date and make a mental note.

Step 2: Do a manual wordpress upgrade. Check those files that you are not suppose to delete according to wordpress upgrade instructions. If they were edited on the same day the ‘extra’ codes were inserted, mostly likely you’ll find the codes there as well. Clean em up!

Step 3: Proceed with the manual wordpress upgrade.

Step 4: Change password. Make it as complicated as you can. Capital letters. Small letters. Numbers. Signs.

Step 5: Also check your FTP access. Make sure there is no anonymous access allowed. Set all accounts with complicated passwords.

Tada! (Cross my fingers that my blog will not be hacked again)

If you have got some good tips, please bring it on.

Undelete

Can you believe it? I accidentally, in my daze, deleted the entire folder of pictures I took in 2008. My heart sank. I immediately called up our emergency IT helpdesk but they told me there is no way to recover.

Not giving up, I googled for an hour for a solution and finally chanced upon this software call ‘Undelete PLUS’ and managed to cover at least 70% of my pictures. Phew!!!

Just in case you may need it.

Hacked by Russian

My blog was hacked! It kept redirecting itself to a Russian site.

I am glad I managed to bring it back up. How did I do it? Easy! I decided instead of requesting for a rollback to Blue Host, where I will lose all the posts and precious comments after Aug 9 – I did an upgrade of wordpress on my own. Luckily, that works!

But its amazing to see how they managed to tamper individually through all my files.
