Belgian Stoemp Aux Carottes



The picture is not doing justice! The taste was yummy. Stoemp is a typical Belgian mashed potatoes infused with vegetables of your liking. I served it with oven baked chicken ala African (Mr. Fudge’s mama recipe – will share next time).

Makes 2-3 side servings


  • 500g potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 300g carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 100g bacon bits
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 50g unsalted butter
  • 100ml milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg


  1. Steam potatoes and carrots in salted water for 15mins
  2. Saute bacon and onions till cooked (onion soften), I also added some finely chopped spring onions (leftovers)
  3. Mash potatoes & carrots
  4. Add bacon and onions
  5. Let butter melt on top
  6. Add milk and nutmeg (I might try with 80ml milk next time round as Mr. Fudge commented that it was a little too wet)
  7. Season with salt and petter
  8. Toss well and serve. Bon appetit!
